What is it?
A special promotion presented by the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, which invites diners to enjoy prix-fixe lunches and dinners at some of San Franciscos finest restaurants. Formerly taking place all of January, Dine About Town expanded in 2008 to include dates in June. For January, the promotion will kick off on the 15th and last though the month. In partnership with OpenTable.com, reservations can easily be made online.
What are the prices?
At the more than 100 participating restaurants, the prices for the three-course meals are fixed. For lunch, its $21.95 per person and for dinner, $31.95. This does not include beverage, tax, or gratuity.
More than 100 restaurants?
Thats right. More than 100 restaurants in San Francisco will be participating. Cuisines are as varied as they are delicious. For vegans, there are indeed options.
Among the restaurants, 45 were featured in the Michelin San Francisco 2008 guide. One Market (at 1 Market Street) even received a coveted Michelin star. Seven of these restaurants were declared Bid Gourmand by the guide, which according to Michelin standards, means they were a good value. These were A16, Le Charm, Namu, Poleng Lounge, Sauce, Tres Agaves, and Zazil.
All of the restaurants participating in Dine About Town present something new and cool to try though, especially for the visitor to the city. This is a great opportunity to sample a number of San Franciscos fine cuisine at a set (and reasonable) price. Among the 100+ restaurants, 25 are newbies for 2008 and 17 have been participants since the first Dine About Town in 2002. These include One Market, MoMos San Francisco (across from the ballpark), Scomas (on Fishermans Wharf), and Hornblower Cruises.
What about June?
Yes, definitely keep Junes dates in mind if you happen to be planning a trip perhaps a return trip to San Francisco in the summer. The Dine About Town dates are set: June 1-15, 2008. Bon appetit!
