Choosing where to stay...

When choosing your hotel, it's important to consider location and budget. You can find hotel accommodations in most every part of San Francisco, from Fisherman's Wharf to South of Market to Nob Hill, but most hotels are found in Union Square, placing guests close to shopping, the theater, and many popular attractions. A stay in Union Square will also solve your transportation problems. From here, you can get most anywhere in the city and thus, save money otherwise spent on a rental car and parking.

When making reservation, be sure to ask about discounts and package deals. It never hurts to ask, and if you are planning to visit during the summer or when a major convention is being held, then try and make your reservation early in advance. You wouldn't want to be caught with limited options. And given that San Francisco is a popular city all year-round, it's probably a good idea to call as soon as you can and secure your room. That will be one less thing to check off your list.

If you have special requests, such as wheelchair accessibility or non-smoking, please ask. The hotel should be more than willing to accommodate and if you meet with resistance, then move onto the next on your list. Your experience should be pleasant from the moment you call.

Price-wise, San Francisco is a pricey city. All the more reason to ask about any special rates or discounts that are available.
