Top Strip Clubs in San Francisco

San Francisco has Enough Gentleman's Clubs to Keep you Rocking all Week

By

Strip clubs dot the entire center of the city of San Francisco, although the Broadway strip in North Beach is truly ground zero. San Francisco's strip clubs come in many different forms, from historic speakeasies turned classy dance venues to one of a kind worker-owned peepshows, where entertainers pool their earnings. Keep in mind that alcohol is only served in topless clubs, not fully nude ones.

1. The Condor

In 1964, the Condor Club caused an international sensation when it opened as the first topless club in the United States. Located right on the corner of Broadway and Columbus, right where Chinatown meets North Beach, the historic strip club is still a major tourist landmark and has a distinctly old school barbary coast vibe. Plush booths, a speakeasy decor and daily drink specials make the Condor the kind of club that is popular with couples, and the fact that live local bands play here in the early evenings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday has made the Condor into a hangout for residents of the area.

2. The Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theater

Once called the "Carnegie Hall of Public Sex" by gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theater opened in 1969 and set the standard for strip clubs across the nation. The theater pioneered the lap dance and produced several early porn films including the 1972 classic Behind the Green Door. Now the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theater, which is located just off of Polk Street near San Francisco's Civic Center, is still the premier strip club in the city, and boasts 5 different stages or "venues" and is fully nude, but cannot serve alcohol because of the city laws regulating nudity and alcohol.

3. The Lusty Lady - Now Closed!

The world's only worker-owned and unionized peep show, the Lusty Lady is a North Beach institution that has been titilating customers with live nude dancers since the early 1970s. Open 24 hours a day and free of cover charge, the Lusty Lady offers an alternative to the big strip clubs of Broadway, just a half a block away. Here, the emphasis is on private shows in private booths, with a plate of glass separating the client from the performer.

4. The Gold Club

Located right around the corner from the Moscone convention center and a half a block from Yerba Buena Gardens, the Gold Club is the most upscale strip club in the city and caters mostly to visiting business people. A daily free lunch buffet gets the club started early and a fine dining dinner menu keeps guests from leaving due to hunger in the evening hours. The club also hosts a variety of dance parties, contests and other events and is open after-hours till 5am every Saturday night.

5. Crazy Horse

The best gentlemen's club in the city to catch performances by visiting adult entertainment stars, Crazy Horse is located on Market Street just blocks up from the cable car turnaround near Union Square. The all nude club features a large theater-style stage that brings out the performer in the dancers - this is the place where pole tricks and other acrobatic maneuvers are a regular part of the show.

6. DejaVu Centerfold's

Sitting at the end of the Broadway Strip just before it heads down to the waterfront, Centerfold's is less assuming than the other gaudy clubs that line the street, but offers some of the best specials and events in town. Amateur contests every Monday, two for one specials on Tuesday, free lunches on Friday and Saturday and a variety of other promotions make this club the best bang for your buck in the area.
