February 3rd, 2011 ushers in The Year of the Hare and an extended Chinese New Year celebration in San Francisco, home of the largest concentration of Chinese residents outside China. A local tradition for more than 150 years, the Chinese New Year Parade draws hundreds of thousands of spectators. Elaborate floats and costumes, exploding firecrackers and ferocious lions are all part of the spectacle. It takes a team of over 100 men and women from the martial arts group White Crane to carry the 250’ Golden Dragon throughout the streets of San Francisco.
