Celebrating its 4th year on Saturday August 17th, the Chinatown Music Festival has quickly become one of the most important outdoor cultural festivals in the city's impressive annual event line-up.
Taking over Portsmouth Square in the heart of Chinatown itself, the festival features several renown local musical performers including pianist/composer Jon Jang and his ensemble, local jazz legends the Marcus Shelby Orchestra and Chinatown's own Jest Jammin soul band.
This year's festival honors the spirit of Hopjok, which is an ancient Chinese term for community and co-operation.
Art displays, children games and traditional Chinese crafts also round out the festival, for a full break down check out the official website.
Sticking around for dinner after the festival is a great idea. Check out my list of the Top Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco.
