Where can you shop for fresh California fruits and vegetables with the San Francisco bay and the Golden Gate Bridge as a dramatic backdrop? The Fort Mason Center Farmer's Market.

Every Sunday rain or shine from 9:30am till 1:30pm the parking lot is full of produce from local organic and specialty farms, and during the summer there is often live music.

Right now the winter crops are in season, including fresh apples and pommelos, winter greens and a wide selection of heirloom potatoes.

The Fort Mason Center is a historic waterfront military base turned culture and arts complex and hosts several free museums as well as theater companies and arts organizations. There is even a backpackers hostel and a lush community garden. Stick around after the farmers market to check it out and you just might spend the rest of the day there.
