Best of SF: Swan's Oyster Depot

Because 2013 is here and it's time to celebrate I am going to share with you a true local treasure, a hole in the wall that easily takes the top spot in San Francisco for California Seafood: Swan's Oyster Depot.

This 100 year old landmark is the place go in the city for fresh Pacific Coast oysters on the half shell and freshly caught Dungeness Crab when its in season - and right now its in season!

The Polk street icon almost always sports a line on the weekends, but that is due to the very limited seating and it tends to move fast.

Swan's is cash only and the only alcohol they sell is San Francisco's own Anchor Steam beer by the frosty pint, so if you want to bring some wine or champagne you will have to brown bag it.

Even though its a bit off the tourist path, Swan's is just a half block away from the California Street cable car line (the least busy line), and is a brisk  walk from either Nob Hill or Fisherman's Wharf.

Swan's Oyster Depot, 1517 Polk St, (415) 672-1101
