Just two steps out of bustling Fisherman's Wharf lies one of the city's most tranquil waterfront havens: Aquatic Park.
Sporting a small beach that is never very busy, rows of amphitheater style seating that offer incredible panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and a lush stretch of green grass just made for sunny afternoon naps, this park feels a world away from the tourist hustle that typifies the area.
Stay on the lookout for swimmers in the little inlet in front of the park, they are known as the "Polar Bear Club" due to the icy temperatures of the water and the fact that they wear little in terms of gear besides a speedo.
Those that want to distance themselves even more from the crowds of the wharf, should just keep walking west and follow the path up the cliff to the expansive greenery and gardens of the Great Meadow of Fort Mason.
